If you have had blood tests through your GP, the process will sound familiar. Your doctor requests particular tests, a blood sample is collected, a laboratory analyses it, and your doctor interprets the findings. The Dutch association for laboratory medicine, NVKC, describes this sequence in its patient information. LiveLong uses that same core process for laboratory blood testing. We arrange the request through our medical team, you visit a blood-draw location, and a doctor reviews the results after the laboratory has analysed your sample.
So when we say you can get a blood test without a GP referral, we mean you do not need to obtain that referral yourself. The laboratory request is handled by LiveLong. Our laboratory partners normally provide diagnostic services to GPs and hospitals and therefore hold an ISO-15189 accreditation. Your sample is processed within established medical laboratory care and stored in a NEN7510 compliant Electronic Patient Dossier. Only the medical team and you have access to your medical data.
The tests selected and the reason for testing may differ from a GP consultation. A GP investigates your individual symptoms and risks; LiveLong gives you access to a preventive blood-test package you choose yourself.

Our blood-test packages cover different combinations of measurements, including blood count, cholesterol, blood sugar, liver, kidney and thyroid markers. The biomarkers in our Complete package have been carefully selected to give a reliable baseline of your health.
Our Premier package adds vitamins and our Personal package also includes hormone measurements. The package comparison explains which tests are included.
We are adding additional individual biomarkers that you can add to the package of your choice. These additional biomarkers cannot be ordered separately as our GPs need the health insights our packages cover to give accurate insights into these biomarkers.
I also want to be clear about the word “full.” A comprehensive blood panel measures a defined set of values. It cannot check every aspect of your health or rule out every illness. A result outside a reference range does not automatically mean disease, and results within range do not explain away persistent symptoms. Thuisarts explains these limitations of health checks.
That is why I made the health questionnaire and medical interpretation part of LiveLong's proces from the beginning. The numbers become more useful when a registered doctor helps you understand what they may mean.

You can book a blood test without a referral from your own GP at LiveLong because we arrange the laboratory request for you. Your blood is analysed by an accredited medical laboratory and the results are reviewed by a BIG-registered doctor who give clear insights into your health. In this blog I will explain how we setup LiveLong to accomplish this.

Making more informed choices about your health means bringing the practical steps for preventative health insights together: referring you to a blood test, finding a blood-draw location and receiving results with a medical explanation. How to arrange your blood test with LiveLong
- Choose your package. Compare the biomarkers included in each package and decide what you want to understand. Complete your profile and health questionnaire so our medical professionals can use that information when giving you health related insights and advice.
- Receive your laboratory referral. LiveLong arranges your referral and sends the instructions you need for your blood draw. Wait for those instructions before visiting a collection location.
- Have your blood sample taken. Visit one of our available partner locations. Follow the preparation instructions for your test and check what to bring.
- Receive your results with a doctor's review. After laboratory analysis, a BIG-registered doctor reviews your results. You receive them digitally with a written medical explanation, usually within 48h after blood sample.
